Up to 10% drop in UCAS applications in England reported

Last week figures were released which truly show the clear affect the tuition fee increases have had on the number of university applications across the country.

Across the entire country there was a 9.9% decrease overall in the number of applicants applying through UCAS although in some regions in England the figure was much greater.

At the University of Hull, where tuition fees tripled to the highest possible fee (£9,000), they saw a 17% decrease in applications.

The tuition fee hike has also had an affect on the type of subjects which students are choosing to study, with languages and arts seeing a significant drop in applicants.

Although the increase in tuition has clearly had an affect on the amount of applicants it is still unseen how this will further hurt England and education in the future, and with significant drops in languages and art related subjects it certainly appears that there may be a shift towards students picking less practical and more academic areas of studies.
