skins is back

So last night, many of the Force-7 team were watching the first episode of the new season of skins and it has had mixed reviews in the office this morning.

Firstly, the question was, what are they doing in Morocco? It’s not exactly top of the list of destinations for most 18 year olds going on a girls’ / lads’ holiday - but the skins crew are all too cool for Malia / Kavos / Ibiza / Magaluf it seems.

Skins has always baffled me. I personally was never this cool and never went to these amazingly cool parties with all the cool kids doing drugs, getting wasted and sleeping with every guy I met every night of the week. And I am pretty sure I am in the majority on that one - I’m not a complete loser - these parties just don’t really exist in real 18 year old’s lives. Well, maybe they do for like 2% of the population - but I guess e4 couldn’t make a very exciting TV show if it was based on the actual parties that teenagers go to, because in reality they’re pretty awkward and crap.

Maybe I am being cynical as I missed the last series and I haven’t warmed to these characters yet. I didn’t like Effy’s crew when they first burst on the scene and ousted out Tony and Michelle - but now I’d love to see Effy and Freddy back! So maybe I’ll warm to these characters in a few weeks…

The most exciting thing I have discovered however, is not about the show itself - it’s on Facebook.

Each character has their own Facebook profile and interacts with the rest of the cast as though they were real people. I think this is genius! It’s a great way for people like me to warm to the new characters and understand what’s going on, and it’s just generally really interesting to see what they get up to. This morning for example, loads of messages have been sent in to Grace now she is in a coma. A clever way to keep the audience interacting and engaged with the show - love it.
